Cozy Winter Casual

This week, the temperature dropped to the teens. That’s right, the teens. Thankfully the weather stayed warm last week when I was off work, and I could fully enjoy going out. This kind of temperature fluctuation definitely throws my outfits off, especially when it comes to the age old “will I need a jacket?” Fortunately, my jacket stayed in a closet for most of last week! The one thing I love about this time of year is the sweaters, whether they’re open knit or super bulky, and cold weather accessories. There’s nothing like a bulky sweater, infinity scarf, and riding boots to make an outfit perfect.

2015-01-04 15.56.27edSweater – Forever21 | Beanie – Pac Sun (similar)

I bought this sweater at the beginning of the season and have completely worn it out since. It’ s so soft and cozy, and I love that it hangs lower in the front and back and higher on the sides; it’s perfect to wear with leggings. I also like that it’s not solid white or gray, but a little bit of both which allows me to mix and match it with just about everything. The beanie I’m wearing is more for fashion than function, but I like the strands of silver shimmer that make it pop. This outfit is definitely my go-to in cooler weather for running errands or meeting friends at the mall.

Fingers crossed that it warms up a bit this weekend!

Reaching for Spring

This weekend was absolutely beautiful for March, with temperatures in the high 50s and low 60s. Not only was I able to spend the weekend shopping with my mom, but I was able to do it without wearing a jacket. It is seriously liberating to not freeze my butt off while walking from the parking lot to the mall. I find this time of the year so interesting to dress for- it’s not really spring yet so it’s too soon to start dressing for spring (though this is arguable), and it’s not cold enough to continue to dress like an eskimo (I apologize to my eskimo readers). I decided to combine both seasons, and my fusion outfit was comfortable for the weather, and for a day of shopping.

The H&M henley is loose and comfortable, and I like that I can layer it for added warmth. It was also a relief to be able to show off some arm candy and not wear a bulky sweater or gloves. I finally started using the beautiful crossbody bag I bought on my trip to India. I bought it with the intention of using it as a summer bag, and I’m so happy I can finally justify using it! I also traded out my usual boots for flats, and I can’t wait to start wearing sandals again.

Let’s hope the weather continues to get warmer from here on out!

I own one turtleneck. Literally, one turtleneck. The only reason I own said turtleneck is because it was a Christmas present. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to sound ungrateful, I’m just trying to express how much I don’t wear turtlenecks. I just don’t like the way they feel on my neck, I find it kind of suffocating.

Luckily the one I own has a loose neck so it is extremely comfortable. When I checked the weather this morning and saw that it was 15 degrees…I kid you not, 15 degrees, I decided to whip this baby out and wear it for the day. I’m so glad I did because it kept me insanely warm, and I love the way it fits. It’s cut perfectly for my figure and is pretty flattering (if I may say so myself).

Let’s hope the weather begins to warm up so I can jump into Spring fashion!

Off the Shoulder!

It is finally warming up around here…you know you’re desperate when your idea of “warm” is 40 degrees *sigh. Nevertheless, I’m taking full advantage of the lack of necessity for scarves, gloves and leg warmers. My shoulders have been dying to see the sun, so yesterday I decided to wear one of my favorite baggy sweatshirts off the shoulder, and pair it with a tank top that never gets to see the sun. I always wondered how to best wear crochet or lace back tank tops because unless you wear them alone, no one ever gets to see the back! I was staring at my closet trying to put an outfit together when I realized that a crochet back tank top would look perfect with an off the shoulder top. The crochet part shows from the back, and since the top is so baggy, the tank top dresses it up a bit. The thing I love about this sweatshirt is that it doesn’t have to be worn off the shoulder. It’s cut to sit on your shoulders, so I can wear it just about any way I want to!

My top is from Aerie, you can find a similar one here (in “True Navy”).

My necklace is from Aeropostale, and you can wear just about any dangling charm necklace with this outfit.

My beret is from PacSun, you can find a very similar one here.

The reason I chose to wear a long necklace is because it brings the focus down away from the shoulders and neck. There would just be “too much going on up there” if you wore a short statement necklace as opposed to a long dangling one. I wore the beret for fun, but I loved how the shimmer complimented the crochet back of the tank top.

The super cute background was made by my insanely talented RA.
