Risky Business

So today I decided to take a super risk with my outfit. I say super risk because I never, I mean never wear crop tops. I have a couple that I bought thinking I’d totally rock them, but then I chickened out when it came to wearing them. Crop tops are hot this season, and I’ve seen and heard a lot about pairing crop tops with high waisted skirts rather than the traditional shortie shorts. I decided to have some courage and pair one of my plain cropped tees with an old cotton patterned skirt, and to be honest, I really liked the outcome.

My shirt is from Forever21, you can find a similar one here.

My skirt is from American Eagle, you can find a similar one here.

The shirt isn’t cropped as high as a lot of tees in stores, but I think that’s what made the outfit work. If it was too short, I’d be showing too much skin and the outfit would look beachy or clubby depending on the skirt I chose. Having a shirt this length allowed me to show a little bit of midriff but still keep it classy. Choosing a patterned skirt over a plain skirt is also important because it draws attention away from the crop top and focuses it on the skirt.

All in all I’m glad I took the risk and put this baby together because I felt good about myself all day. There’s something about that feeling you get when you take a risk and it ends up working out. The lesson I learned: don’t be afraid to take risks with your wardrobe. If you think it’ll work and you’re confident about how you wear it, it’ll look great no matter what.

Let me know what you think!!
